Apr.19 (GMM) Mark Webber, the active formula one race driver for Red Bull Racing, has openly charged the Max Mosley sex scandal with bringing the sport into disrepute.

"Whether we like it or not, all of us in F1 are role models, and F1 simply cannot have scandals of this type," the Australian wrote in his column for BBC Sport.

Of the very few drivers to have commented on the affair, Webber's criticism of Mosley is easily the most unfavourable, but he refused to say whether he thought the embattled FIA president should step down.



"He's in a very, very influential position and it's a very important role that he has," he said of the 67-year-old Briton, who will face a confidence vote at the FIA meeting on June 3.

"It makes it difficult when any of these sorts of scandals are involved, when they become public. It will be more challenging for him to do his role," Webber added.

"Because F1 is so high profile, we are always very sensitive to not bringing it into (disrepute) because of the amount of people involved in it."
