Kubica eyes future rally switch

May 2 (GMM) Robert Kubica has refused to rule out switching from formula one to become a professional rally driver.

BMW-Sauber's Polish race driver is an avid rally fan, and he told the British news agency Reuters that he often spends time away from the grand prix paddocks to stand among the mud-covered spectators at a rally event.

The 23-year-old admitted "a good possibility" of switching codes one day.

"If I want to do rally properly as a serious driver, I cannot wait a long time. But first of all I would like to have fun in formula One and achieve something in formula one," he said.

"The second option is (to do it) when I stop formula one, just to do rallying for fun. And I think the second option is more possible," Kubica added.

Kubica made his grand prix debut as Jacques Villeneuve's replacement at BMW in 2006, and he is currently third in the championship following two podiums and his maiden pole position in Bahrain.
