Mark Webber leave the pitbox to start his practice session for the 2008 Turkisch Grand Prix
ISTANBUL, Turkey, May 10, 2008 (AFP) - Australian Mark Webber unexpectedly swept to the top of the Turkish Grand Prix final practice time-sheets Saturday ahead of Renault´s former two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.

Webber, who apologised to his Red Bull team after crashing out in Friday practice, clocked one minute 27.030 seconds with a late flying lap on the Istanbul Park track.

The British-based driver, 31, finished 0.1 secs ahead of Spaniard Alonso while David Coulthard completed an impressive showing for Red Bull ahead of qualifying with third spot.

Scottish veteran Coulthard, one of only eight drivers to have competed in more than 200 Grand Prix, is looking to score his first points of the season after a start marred by a series of crashes.

Williams racer Nico Rosberg went fourth fastest with another late burst on the 5.338 kms track with overnight pacesetter Felipe Massa, winner in Istanbul for the past two years, fifth quickest.

Massa was half-a-second down on Webber as the top of the time-sheets had an ususual look with team-mate and championship leader Kimi Raikkonen back in 11th spot.

The Finnish driver, who has a nine point lead after the first four races, did have one brief excursion off the tack at turn one with his best time over 0.8secs slower than Webber.

Toyota´s Italian driver Jarno Trulli, enjoying his racing this year, was sixth quickest ahead of Britain´s Lewis Hamilton in his McLaren with Germany´s Timo Glock eighth in the other Toyota.

Honda´s Jenson Button and Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet, in his Renault, completed the top 10 at the end of the hour long session on a track left greasy by early morning rain.
