Mosley to strike back in F1 power struggle

FIA President Max Mosley

Jun.22 (GMM) Following the threat of a 'breakaway' championship and a war with Bernie Ecclestone over a new Concorde Agreement, Max Mosley will hit back this week, according to reports.

The FIA's World Motor Sport Council is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, where it is suggested that Mosley - the Paris based federation's president - will launch a counter-offensive to win back the affection of formula one teams.

Having survived the sex scandal, Mosley is set to propose that Ecclestone - who runs F1's commercial rights - promises much more of the sport's income for the teams before he puts his signature on a new Concorde.

Currently, teams receive 75 per cent of F1's promotional fees and 50 per cent of the TV money, but Mosley wants Ecclestone to up the stakes to 92 and up to 67 per cent respectively, the authoritative German magazine Auto Motor und Sport claims.

"With this, the teams bosses will forget all about the Mosley scandal," one figure in the Magny-Cours paddock predicted.

It is believed that Mosley can already count on Ferrari's support, as team boss Stefano Domenicali is already no longer meeting with Ecclestone - who may have travelled to Maranello last week - about F1's current power struggle.

Williams and the Red Bull teams are also reportedly ready to side with the FIA.
