Renault to debut 'W' wing in Australia

Feb.6 (GMM) Renault will introduce a radical new rear wing concept when the 2008 season kicks off in Australia next month, a source close to the French team has said.

The anonymous source told the Dutch website f1today.nl that the French squad has decided not to use the wing in pre-season testing so that rival teams cannot copy it.

"I have seen it in the wind tunnel and it is totally unique," the source, revealing that the concept has been nicknamed the 'W' wing in reference to its shape, said.

It is reportedly hoped that the 'W' wing will be worth up to five tenths per lap for the R28 single seater, to be raced in 2008 by Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet Jr.

Williams may also be toying with the 'W' concept, f1today.nl added.
