Schu would win Hamilton head-to-head - Mosley

FIA President Max Mosley
FIA President Max Mosley
Feb.25 (GMM) Max Mosley has echoed Willi Weber's belief that Michael Schumacher would win a straight fight against F1's newest sensation, Lewis Hamilton.

As the pair both test at the Circuit de Catalunya on Monday, the FIA president declared that despite the excitement surrounding Hamilton's rookie season, seven time world champion Schumacher would still be the racer to bet on had he not retired at the end of 2006.

Asked by the Austrian broadcaster ORF who he thinks would win a hypothetical head-to-head, Mosley replied: "Schumacher!

"If you think about his teammates, they were almost all very strong, and some of them were tremendously strong -- but he was always the strongest," the Briton added.

Mosley also said that he hopes reducing costs in formula one can attract new manufacturers to the sport.

"If we can succeed in what we intend, and a manufacturer can clearly see that the costs are under control and the research expenditures are reasonable and in a useful direction, then I think we will see new ones," he said.

He also interestingly spoke out against the advent of biofuels in motor racing, even though the FIA has mandated a 5.75 per cent blend for F1 in 2008.

Mosley insists that, for formula one, the forthcoming energy recovery route is a better one.

"I have enormous concerns about biofuel," he said. "What we really need to be looking at is better exploiting the source of the energy."

Mosley also said he is not expecting any more espionage scandals in F1.

"I think people always knew what was not allowed, but now it has been underlined. We will never again see something on the scale of last year," he added.
