LONDON, Feb 17, 2008 (AFP) - Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone believes the racist abuse suffered by Lewis Hamilton in Barcelona is just "an isolated incident" and claimed that the FIA´s anti-racism campaign was "not necessary".

"All it does is give attention to people who want attention," F1 boss Ecclestone told the BBC.

Ecclestone described the abuse, in which Hamilton was taunted at a test session at the Circuit de Catalunya by spectators with blacked-up faces and wearing wigs last month, as "a one-off".

Hamilton is a target for Spanish fans because of his bitter rivalry with former McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso.

The FIA and Ecclestone have the power to pull the plug on the race in Barcelona should another incident occur.

But Ecclestone added: "We´d have to have a look it if anything like that happened, but this is just an isolated incident."
