Glock to stay at Toyota in 2009

Aug.4 (GMM) Timo Glock is set to stay with Toyota next year, as per the 'multi-year' contract he signed with the Japanese F1 team last November.

Reports on Monday suggested the German's retention, in the form of a "new contract" for 2009, is a "reward" for his impressive run to second place in Hungary at the weekend.

But as the German news agency SID points out, the 26-year-old reigning GP2 champion already has a contract that is valid also for 2009 and probably also 2010.

Glock celebrated his result at the Hungaroring with a night out with friends in nearby Budapest, before he flew to Los Angeles on Monday for a short holiday.

"The whole weekend, I was faster than my teammate," he said. "It shows that if the car is right, I can show my potential."

But Glock is not getting carried away.

"No-one should think that we will now be on the podium all the time," he insisted. "Our problem has been consistency, but I hope we can start to turn that around starting now."

Glock's pace in Hungary was all the more remarkable in light not only of his huge Hockenheim crash two weeks earlier, but also the fact that he was getting over a subsequent bout of food poisoning.

"Every time I wanted to have a drink during the race, I wanted to vomit," Glock said. "Of the two litres in my drinks bottle I had maybe 0.2."
