MANAMA, April 3, 2008 (AFP) - Max Mosley has called an extraordinary meeting of motorsport´s world governing body FIA to discuss last weekend´s alleged lurid revelations about his private life.

Mosley, president of the governing body of motoring and motor sport, has requested the meeting to be arranged in Paris at the earliest possible date.

He was revealed in last weekend´s News of the World enjoying an alleged Nazi-style orgy with prostitutes in London.

On Thursday, several leading Formula One teams and major motor manufacturers made statements distancing themselves from his activities and calling for a swift decision on his future with the FIA.

A statement issued by the FIA on Thursday said: "The full membership of the FIA will be invited to attend the meeting at which the widespread publicity following an apparently illegal invasion of the FIA President´s privacy will be discussed.

"The FIA has noted that Mr Mosley is preparing legal proceedings against the newspaper in question.

"It is anticipated that the meeting will take place in Paris. It will be held on the earliest practicable date. No further comments will be made by the FIA regarding the matter at this stage."

The move by Mosley comes after Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Honda Racing and Toyota expressed their great unease at the stories of Mosley´s private life.

The Senate of the FIA is formed by more than 200 members so it is likely it will take some times before the meeting is arranged.

Mosley is expected to issue another statement on Friday as the controversy surrounding his refusal to resign continues.

Despite several calls for his resignation, Mosley indicated in a letter he wrote to FIA members earlier this week that he was fully committed to carrying on in his role.
