Stepney to get last word in espionage saga

Sep.25 (GMM) Nigel Stepney may have triggered the espionage scandal, but he could also get the last word when his autobiography is published next year.

To be called 'Red Mist', publisher Red Mist Books declared that it will detail the sacked Ferrari chief mechanic's "own account of the 'Stepneygate' saga" that rocked formula one this year.

It will be released in the spring of 2008.

Stepney and his alleged espionage accomplice Mike Coughlan are being pursued not only by the FIA's legal department regarding a ban on them ever working again in motor sport, but also by the Italian and British legal systems.

FIA president Max Mosley warned the duo that "heavy penalties" are likely to await as a furious Ferrari bays for justice.

"No one will hire them anymore in F1, that's for sure," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport, adding that the civil and criminal proceedings will differ to the recently concluded World Motor Sport Council hearings in which McLaren was fined and kicked out of the 2007 championship.

Mosley said: "Ours was a sporting trial. In the other ones, astonishing things will come out. Many of them."
