PARIS, Sept 20, 2007 (AFP) - British Formula One team McLaren have until 1500 GMT Friday to appeal the 100 million dollar fine and exclusion from the 2007 constructors championship over the Ferrari spying charges, the International Motoring Federation (FIA) said Thursday.
"After confirming with the court of appeal the FIA can confirm that the deadline for the appeal will expire on Friday, September 21 at 1700 (1500 GMT)," said the FIA in a statement which initially indicated the deadline was Wednesday afternoon.
On September 13 the FIA, the sport´s governing body, fined McLaren 100 million dollars and threw the British team out of the 2007 constructors´ championship for gaining a competitive advantage from secret information leaked to them by ex-Ferrari engineer Nigel Stepney.
McLaren chief, Ron Dennis, said the decision to appeal would be taken by the board of directors of the group, highlighting that he had recommended that there be no legal challenge to the FIA decision.
The two McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, currently in first and second respectively in the drivers championship, were allowed to continue to compete.
