McLaren withdraw appel over Hungary sanction
Ron Dennis - Team Principal, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes
Chairman and CEO, McLaren Group
PARIS, Sept 18, 2007 (AFP) - McLaren-Mercedes have withdrawn their appeal against a points penalty the team received during last month´s Hungarian Grand Prix, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced on Tuesday.
The Formula One team were deducted 15 points due to them in the constructors championship after Fernando Alonso was found to have voluntarily impeded team-mate Lewis Hamilton in qualifying.
Hamilton went on to win the race, with Alonso finishing fourth at the Hungaroring.
An appeal hearing had been scheduled for Paris on Wednesday.
But the FIA said in a statement: "McLaren have notified the International Court of Appeal this morning (Tuesday) that they wish to withdraw their appeal against the decision of the Stewards."
McLaren´s decision to drop the appeal could mean that the British team have decided to accept the FIA´s record 100 million dollars fine and the decision to remove them from the 2007 constructors´ championship race after being found guilty of spying on the Ferrari team.
