LONDON, Oct 23, 2007 (AFP) - British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton told BBC radio on Tuesday he had no interest in winning the 2007 world drivers´ championship by disqualification of other drivers.

The McLaren Mercedes-Benz Formula One team said Sunday night it was ready to appeal a stewards´ decision at the Brazilian Grand Prix, keeping alive Hamilton´s title dream.

The team made the decision following the stewards´ decision not to punish the BMW Sauber and Williams teams for using allegedly irregular fuel during Sunday´s race, won by Ferrari´s Kimi Raikkonen to claim the drivers´ title.

McLaren officials notified the FIA of their intention to appeal the race stewards´ decision not to penalise BMW Sauber and Williams within an hour of the announcement, which had appeared to seal the championship for the Finn.

However Hamilton said he did not want to win the championship thanks to the disqualification of other drivers.

"To have the world title taken away is a bit cruel and probably not good for the sport," Hamilton told 5live Sport. "It would feel weird after Kimi did such a fantastic job in the last two races and won on Sunday."

He added: "I want to win it on the track. You want to do it in style, you want to win the race or battling it out for the lead. Being promoted after other people have been thrown out is not the way I want to do it.

"I´m only 22 and there´s going to be plenty more opportunities for me to win the world championship. I have no doubt that we can do that in the future," he added.

"It has been a phenomenal year and it has just been a real pleasure to be part of the team. I´m extremely proud of them and of my family and everyone that´s supported me to get me where I am."

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, Hamilton´s McLaren team-mate, said he would be "embarrassed" to see Hamilton winning the world crown. "If he wins the title because of this it wouldn´t be fair. I´d be embarrassed for this sport," said the Spaniard.

Alonso gave his backing to Raikkonen as a worthy winner, saying: "Raikkonen is the deserved champion. If you have more points, you are the deserved champion, just like in football. Kimi has won six races and Hamilton, like me, has won four."

Meanwhile Hamilton´s father has backed his son to win his first world title next year.

"We´ve had a great season, finishing second in the drivers´ world championship," reflected Anthony Hamilton to PA Sport. "To be quite honest, if somebody had said to us last year that is what we would do this year then I would have said they´re dreaming.

"We were leading for most of the season, and it was there - just not quite this time, but it´s our first year, so maybe we will do it in the second.

"But we have to be proud of what we´ve done considering all the strife, grief, rubbish we´ve been through this year. We´ve learned more in one season as a team and individuals than anybody has ever experienced in this business, and all it´s going to do is make us stronger.

"What´s happened this year will make Lewis stronger. All we have done is prove that as a team, car and driver, we´re here for the future.

"So hell, enjoy your fun now because next year there´s going to be a problem, and we´re going to be back at the front. Next year he will no longer be a rookie and they (the other Formula One drivers) are going to be in trouble aren´t they?"
