Hamilton told to cool title celebrations

Oct.19 (GMM) Lewis Hamilton has been told to keep his celebrations in check should he be crowned F1's first ever rookie world champion on Sunday.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis told reporters at Interlagos that the FIA handed down the request to team manager Dave Ryan a couple of weeks ago -- but it appears that a similar edict has not been imposed on Ferrari, whose Kimi Raikkonen could also win the championship in Brazil.

It is believed that Ryan was told specifically that F1's traditional post-race procedures - including governing the slowing down lap, parc ferme, podium and press conference - should be strictly followed if a McLaren driver wins the title.

"We are in a heightened atmosphere of compliance, let's put it that way," Dennis said on Friday, presumably alluding to McLaren's involvement in the espionage affair earlier this year.

"I'm cool and relaxed about it, as I've been with many of the other things that have come our way," he added.

"We were told to strictly adhere to the regulations.

"I suppose their thoughts were (regarding) the youthful behaviour Lewis may have if he had been in the fortunate position of having won the world championship," Dennis said.

Ferrari's Todt said Dennis' comments were "the first time I have heard" anything about special strict rules for Sunday's title winner.
