Tyre rule tweak possible for 2008
Renault sets the right pressure on the Bridgestone tyres for the 2007 English Grand Prix
Jul.30 (GMM) The inaugural Singapore grand prix will indeed be the first ever formula one race to be staged at night.
The specialist magazine Auto Motor und Sport said on Monday that, to spice up the racing and strategy options, a more assorted selection of tyre compounds could be offered by Bridgestone at each grand prix.
Currently, the two compounds made available to teams at races are fairly similar -- for instance, this weekend in Hungary, each driver must use both the 'soft' and the white-branded 'super soft' during the Hungarian grand prix.
But some team bosses are reportedly arguing that varying the tyre options available - for example, the 'super soft' and the 'medium' in Hungary - would lead to a more mixed jumble of pace and a higher prospect of in-race passing.
Auto Motor und Sport claims that the smaller teams are championing the idea, but that their more competitive rivals are not overly keen.
Bridgestone is also thought to be resisting, as implementing the proposal properly for 2008 would probably involve tweaking its existing range of tyre compounds at some cost.
