Winkelhock to debut in Germany - report

Jul.17 (GMM) German rookie Markus Winkelhock will definitely race for Spyker at this weekend's European grand prix but perhaps not beyond.

That is the information of the widely-circulated German newspaper Bild-Zeitung, which said the team's 27-year-old reserve driver has now been given the green light for the Nurburgring by boss Colin Kolles.

Winkelhock would be the latest son of a former grand prix driver to make his debut, after his father Manfred contested 47 formula one races in the 80s before he was killed in a Canadian sports car race.

At the time of his father's death (1985), Markus was five.

It is expected that Winkelhock's Nurburgring debut will be a one-off, before a full time replacement - probably Christian Klien - races for the rest of the 2007 season in Christijan Albers' place.

"I probably won't be able to do the whole season, because I have not enough sponsor money," Winkelhock confirmed to f1grandprix.it.

He raced for Kolles' DTM team at Mugello at the weekend, and confirmed that the German touring car series is an option for 2008.
