Dec.2 (GMM) A management appointment at one of the world's largest carmakers has caught the attention of formula one observers.
Hans-Joachim Stuck, a famous German racing driver who started more than 74 grands prix in the 70s, will next year become 'Motorsport Representative' for Volkswagen, the fourth largest automobile manufacturer in the world.
The 57-year-old is a regular in the formula one paddock, commentating for German television and acting as an ambassador for BMW.
This weekend, he was farewelled in Munich on the occasion of BMW's end of season Motorsport Party.
In his new VW role, to commence on January 1, Stuck will advise the carmaker's board on motor sport issues and work on the "strategic development of new motor sport opportunities for the Group brands", a spokesman explained.
Volkswagen, or its sporty Audi arm, is often linked with a formula one foray.
